Concept to Reality

Could it be? Is it possible? Have we, at long last, come to the finish (, starting) line? 

As of this past week, specifically - Monday, June 22 at 2:57 pm - GrassLands Brewing Company has finally been granted permission via the state of Florida to brew and sell its own beer! How freaking awesome is that? Awesome enough that it deserves to be the spotlight in a monthly blog post, eh? We certainly think so...even on this monumental day in American History (just check your social media outlet of choice to get the reference). 

Thinking back to when GrassLands was merely a twinkle in homebrewer Gabe Grass' eye - it's incredible to think how far we've come. Sometimes, after the taproom is all closed for the evening, I (Gabe) hang back and really just let this whole thing soak in for a few moments. I take a few deep breaths, count my blessings and give thanks to everyone who's made a positive impact in GrassLands becoming a reality. I could really get incredibly sappy with this post and name names - but you really know who you are. So I won't do that here.

Ahh, hell with that noise, I think I will! To - those of you who've backed us with the smallest to very large investments, those of you who shouldered through the crowds to get a sample of our beer at any given festival at which we've participated over the past four years, those of you who've taken the time to give us feedback on said beers as well as our business model, those of you who've sacrificed much to bring this idea to a reality - like leaving your corporate jobs to be a part of our little start-up, those of you who've showed an un-ending amount of support and encouragement, to my wife - my rock and GrassLands' first official stakeholder, I will forever be grateful. I mean that - I couldn't have done this without you.

Man, is someone cutting up onions in here? Let's get back on track Gabe. 

So now what's on our horizon? Lots and lots and lots and lots guessed it...CLEANING! Doesn't that sound like fun? That and paperwork. We'll manage to brew a few times here & there, right? Honestly, we're gearing up to get our brew on for realz. We've got not eight, but sixteen pilot fermenters ready to be filled. All we need to do now is get our ingredients delivered and put Penny to work! It'll be great to hear our taproom staffers not have to constantly answer patrons' questions like "Where's your beer?" with a "Not right now, but..." I'm sure they'll be happy to stop that as well, right Andrew, Liz, Spencer & Melissa? 

We're in the process of planning what we're calling our Grand(er) Opening: (Insert Fun Tagline Here)!  which will be coming in late August. Excited? We absolutely are. There's so much going on in and outside of our doors that we can barely keep our heads on straight. This is going to be a fun few months and we're psyched about all the opportunity! 

So to all of you who've waited with baited breath on our beer, just hold that breath a little longer and ye shall be rewarded. Better yet, quench your thirst and enjoy your experience inside our taproom with some good beer. Every beer we currently put on tap is one we've either vetted or personally selected from previous experiences. We're eager to have our own on tap, but in the meantime, we're doing everything in our power to have a good time serving great beer brewed by our brewing industry brethren. 

With that said, have an absolutely amazing weekend, my dear readers, because you definitely deserve it!

Well, it took a little longer to happen, but welcome to the new digs! Feel free to browse around the new & improved! All praise be to Andrew P., GrassLands' co-head beerslinger, who helped create the minimalist-approach to GrassLands' online presence. We consider this website to be more of a living, evolutionary thing. As we grow, so too will its content, in both complexity and innovation (whoops, should I not use that word without first consulting Bell's?) - sorry, I just couldn't help myself. Anyways, as you navigate around the new site and notice areas that should/need to be addressed, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. The new, all-encompassing email is :)

So it's been a while, no? A lot - and boy do I mean it - a LOT has happened over the past several weeks since we wrote our last blog post. By the by, the blogs will continue, but will be touch & go (i.e. 1-2 blogs per month, and not necessarily on Fridays alone anymore). We got so caught up in the grand opening shindig blastoff party on Feb. 28th (Please have an awesome time enjoying the amazing pictures taken at our event by both Darla Winn and Karla Galvan here) that we had nearly zero time to recuperate before we got going again with our first week of operation. 

A word about the big event and the soft openings leading up to the event: Our sincerest thanks to everyone who turned up with smiles on their faces, braving the horrible weather that just wouldn't let up throughout the day (hey, at least it wasn't as bad as the weather J. Wakefield Brewing had to deal with in Miami on the same day!), as well as the crowded conditions. You all put seemingly permanent smiles on our faces throughout the day and into the evening. More thanks go to our amazing volunteers who helped make the day that much less stressful, and on short notice...mind you. You know who you are and we couldn't have done it without you. Also, many thanks to our families who turned up to help and join in the cheer throughout the weekend. Food from them and our long (and new) time friends at Madison Social, Mayhem Sweets & Treats, Valhalla & Foodz Travelers food trucks kept both our workers/volunteers and our patrons fed & fueled throughout the day. A huge thanks to all the bands that played and to our sound technician who set up a wonderful makeshift stage. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! You can only do a grand opening once, and this will forever be etched in our minds as an awesome time because of you, dear readers. 

As I write this from our very own bar, listening to tunes over our speakers, I'm reminded that this is just the first step on a long road toward achieving our goals. For those of you who weren't able to attend the grand opening, fret not. There's much more fun to have. Much more of our beer will be available in the future - collaboration and our own! The excitement we hear each time a newbie steps into the taproom puts a smile on our face. We're psyched about the future, and we're only 2 weeks old! All the possibility! 

So as we get set to open the taproom for this evenings festivities, I'm beyond the ability to express my own gratitude, as well as that of my team. This has been an amazing ride so far, and we're not done yet - not even close. I'm trying to simply wipe the grin off my face as I type this, because I know we've only scratched the surface. It's been said before and it'll get said again & again & again - we couldn't have done any of this without you. 

So with that said, we hope you enjoy the new look & feel of, we hope to see your face sometime between 4-10 on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 4-12 on Thursdays & Fridays, and 12-12 on Saturdays, and we hope you have an absolutely awesome weekend, dear readers...cause you know what? You absolutely deserve it; now & always.
