How long has it been since we updated the GrassLands Blog?
Long. Like close to 2 years. Remember when we used to do this every Friday? Whew, was I a workhorse (in retrospect, I had no idea what I was in for). But that's okay - it just makes writing the next one that much sweeter. We figured it was about time we brought things back online, whatcha think? It may not be a full-fledged blog post like we had in our hay-day, but this will serve its purpose: get things back online and running on a monthly schedule, at the very minimum.
So, in the 520 days since we last posted, what's happened? After tons of water (literally) and tons of malted barley (literally) later, we're on pace to hit distribution by the close of Q1 2017. Do you know how freakin' happy that makes me? How happy that makes our accounts - who've been lining up and champing at the bit to get our beer on their draft lines. How happy it'll make our investors...who have been waiting extremely patiently for distribution to finally begin. We can stop saying "next month" and finally get this sucker into the next gear.
Retail has been wonderful, without a doubt. It's allowed us to match our brand, mission and vision with an onsite experience for customers. We've also been able to work with a number of partners who've been eager to find that right venue, that right "fit" for lack of a better term to bring awareness to what they've got going on. Retail has allowed our fledgling brewery to grow in staff. The last time I updated the blog, we had 7 employees. We now have 13. That's an incredible thing to think of - especially when we originally planned to have no more than 10 by midyear 2017! Things change.
However, retail only is not our business model...nor do we want it to be. Retail is the proverbial head of the beer. The liquid is in wholesale, while the foam is that added pretty factor to the beer. We're sustainable as a production brewery, and it's about damn time we acted like it.
As I type, our amazingly talented Steam & Glycol guru Bernie (no joke, this dude knows his stuff and he's got a sense of humor) is working tirelessly to get our production-sized, 15-barrel steam-fired brewing system online. It looks like, if all goes to schedule, we'll be ready to fire this puppy up by the end of this month. The first batch to be brewed? Well, how about we do another blog post making that the highlight.
In the meantime, we're planning a smaller launch in the coming weeks - to four locations throughout town, and we'll keep you posted on that progress...as we're sure you, our dear readers, are equally as excited. Right?
Now to look back for a fun fact, effectively closing out our first post in nearly 2 years. Did you know that in our short history, GrassLands has produced 52 unique beers and treatments? We just took a look were wide-eyed in our surprise. That's amazing! Guess how many we want to do in the next year? In fact, we're releasing another newbie this coming Friday: Snakeweiss!
